United Kingdom Accreditation Service UKAS
United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) is the sole national accreditation body recognised by the Government to assess organisations that provide certification, testing, inspection and calibration services. Accreditation by UKAS demonstrates the competence, impartiality and performance capability of these evaluators.
UKAS is a not-for-profit, non-profit-distributing independent company. It operates under a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) held through the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy (BEIS) on behalf of the Government as a whole.
As a company limited by guarantee, UKAS does not have shareholders but is instead governed by its members, who provide strategic direction and are an important link to the sectors that UKAS serves. Members are drawn from across government, business, professional institutions and customer groups, including BEIS, Health & Safety Executive, Ministry of Defence, Confederation of British Industry (CBI), the Construction Industry Council (CIC), Chartered Trading Standards Institute (CTSI) and Science Council.
