Gateway 2 - Pre-Start on Site
Gateway Two in the UK Building Safety Act marks a pivotal stage in the regulatory process for higher-risk buildings under construction or major refurbishment.
This second gateway is the building control approval application stage. It will occur prior to construction work beginning on a higher-risk building. It will see a rigorous inspection of building regulations come into full effect at each stage of the design and construction process.
NB Delivering the golden thread: Guidance for dutyholders and accountable persons, published by the Construction Leadership Council (CLC) in August 2024, defines building control application (gateway 2) as: ‘application milestone where information and documents are required to gain approval from the BSR (Building Safety Regulator) to commence work.’
