Training certificate
A Certificate is an official document attesting a fact, it might be applied to education, training, professionalism or practice. An educational certificate verifies that a student has met a certain set of criteria by passing certain exams or assessments to be awarded a certificate which is measured, assessed, approved issued by a third party.
The third party normally being an education board, for example in the case of the General Certificate of Secondary Education which is awarded by the Council for the Curriculum, Examinations and Assessment (CCEA) which awards certificates based on grades provided by their schools and colleges, as Assessment Centres.
In terms of training, professionalism and practice, particularly in construction, a training certificate (training certification or certificate of training) normally verifies (or certifies) that a professional has met a certain set of criteria for a skilled position and this has been measured, assessed and approved by a third-party. The third party in this case is often the governing board or body of the profession or a training / assessment centre which approved to assess the competence on behalf of the Profession.
An example of such a certificate might be the final practical assessment undertaken by electrical trainees, known as the AM2 certificate or assessment. AM2 assessment is for apprentices and trainees undertaking training against the Apprenticeship Framework, following the NVQ Level 3 route or time-served or part-qualified electricians completing the JIB mature candidate assessment, the assessment is taken to obtain a C&G 2357, 2365, 2330, EAL Electricians Diploma, or NVQ qualification.
A certificate can in many ways relate to a licence as it allows a professional to carry out their work having qualified or received the appropriate certificate. However licences normally differ slightly in that is usually a verification from a government agency, that a professional is licenced and able to perform that profession or trade in that location, and may be breaking the law if carrying out duties without the licence.
