Soil resource
High Speed Rail (Crewe – Manchester) Environmental Statement, Glossary, abbreviations and references, published by the Department for Transport in 2022, defines soil resource as: ‘The textures, structures and volume of different qualities of topsoil and subsoil that have a potential for beneficial reuse.’
It suggests that a soil resource plan: ‘Describes how displaced soil resources will be conserved and subsequently used for the reinstatement of agricultural land, landscape planting and ecological habitat creation. They identify the areas and types of topsoil, upper subsoil and lower subsoil, where applicable, to be stripped during engineering works and the construction of site haul routes. These plans set out the soil handling methods to be used, the volumes of each resource, and the locations and management of soil storage areas.’
