Meeting the demand for housing in the UK
[edit] Introduction
In 2021, the Built Environment Select Committee opened an inquiry to investigate the demand for new housing in the UK. It also sought to explore how barriers to meeting this demand could be overcome.
The inquiry asked for responses to the key factors shaping the type, tenure and quality of housing needed in the UK. In addition, the inquiry requested responses to a range of challenges to meeting that demand, including skills shortages in the construction industry and some specific aspects of the planning system.
CIOB responded to the inquiry by submitting written evidence on the CIOB website.
The Committee is due to report on the subject and make recommendations to the Government by the end of 2021.
This article originally appeared on the Consultation portion of the CIOB website. It was written by Joseph Kilroy, Policy & Public Affairs Manager - Ireland and published on 21 September 2021.
