Gemini Papers: What are connected digital twins?, published by the Centre for Digital Built Britain in 2022, suggests that: ‘Economic infrastructure generates a substantial proportion of emissions. In the UK; energy, transport, waste and wastewater sectors accounted for over 66% of greenhouse gas emissions in 2019. Economic infrastructure encompasses these sectors as well as telecommunications and water. The drive towards net zero is leading to new sectors such as hydrogen which requires new infrastructure. These assets and services are required to sustain economic activity, and all have a different degree of complexity which can be difficult to understand.’
