2D CAD

2D CAD refers to computer-aided design (CAD) that uses digital technology to produce two dimensional (2D) drawings to standard conventions such as plans, elevations and sections. The advantages of 2D CAD drawings over hand drawings mostly lie in the ability to easily make corrections and changes as well as more readily draw off dimensions such as lengths, widths and thicknesses. 2D CAD can also refer to an aspect of 3D CAD where two dimensional drawings have been extracted from a volumetric 3D model and worked on separately in a digital sheet layout.
