Social Enterprise Network Scotland SENScot
Social Enterprise Network Scotland (also referred to as SENScot) is an organisation that provides advice to supported businesses and other organisations that create work for those who face barriers to employment. It was established in 2020 as a result of the merger of Social Firms Scotland and Social Entrepreneurs Network Scotland (Senscot). As of September 2021, SENScot hasa membership of more than 1500 local social enterprises.
SENScot fosters collaboration and provides information and advice; business development support; events and training. It also supports the networking of social entrepreneurs and is working to establish and maintain a support network for social enterprises.
A social enterprise (SE) is a business that is set up to help people, communities or the environment either for profit or not-for-profit. SEs tend to have a mission – to try and change the world for the better but at the same time, they may try to make a profit for the benefit of society. These profits are usually reinvested or donated in an effort to bring about positive social change. Therefore, an SE may use commercial strategies to realise its ends and achieve improvements in financial, social and environmental wellbeing.
