Photosynthesis
North Ayrshire Local Biodiversity Action Plan, 2019-2031, published by North Ayrshire Council, states: ‘Photosynthesis is the process used by plants, algae and certain bacteria to harness energy from sunlight and turn it into chemical energy. Carbon dioxide and water are converted to organic compounds (mainly carbohydrates), releasing oxygen gas as a by-product.’
