Offshore
Groynes in coastal engineering (CIRIA C793), published by CIRIA in 2020, defines offshore as: ‘The zone beyond the nearshore zone where sediment motion induced by waves alone effectively ceases and where the influence of the seabed on wave action has become small in comparison with the effect of wind.’
Where nearshore is: ‘The zone that extends from the swash zone to the position marking the start of the offshore zone, typically to water depths of about 20 m.’
The word offshore may also refer to business activities that takes place outside an entity's home country.
