Net Zero All Party Parliamentary Group NZ APPG
Contents |
[edit] Introduction
All Party Parliamentary Groups (APPGs or APGs) are informal cross-party parliamentary groups run by - and for - Members of the House of Commons and the House of Lords. They may involve individuals and organisations from outside Parliament.
[edit] Activities
The Net Zero APPG was established in 2019 to provide MPs and Peers with a cross-party forum for accelerating the UK’s efforts to reach net zero emissions by 2050. The group works to promote zero carbon solutions, support clean growth technology and ultimately embed the UK’s commitment to deliver a net zero carbon economy.
The group is chaired (2020) by Alex Sobel MP, with Bernard Jenkin MP, Kerry McCarthy MP, Duncan Baker MP, Sara Britcliffe MP, Lord Teverson, and Liz Twist MP acting as Vice-Chairs.
In July 2020, the NZ APPG introduced a preliminary Net Zero Review Action Plan. This was followed up with the publication of Decarbonisation Report, ‘Putting Net Zero at the heart of future UK Policy’ and the 10 Point Net Zero Action Plan in November 2020.
[edit] The Decarbonisation Series
These resources were based on an extensive Decarbonisation Series which incorporated contributions from industry, academia and civil society. The series was conducted as three virtual sessions:
- Decarbonisation: Putting Net Zero at the Heart of Future UK Policy, 18 May 2020
- Accelerating net zero transition, innovation and infrastructure, 2 June 2020
- Building Net Zero Homes and Communities, 30 June 2020
