Local Government and Social Care Ombudsman
The Local Government and Social Care Ombudsman (LGSCO) was created in 1974 by the Local Government Act 1974 which established the Commission for Local Administration, the body that oversees its work and determines its strategic priorities. The service is independent of government and of Parliament and looks at complaints about councils and some other authorities and organisations, including education admissions appeal panels and adult social care providers (such as care homes and home care providers). The service is free, independent and impartial to users and is funded by government grant. The functions of the Commission are set out in the above Act of 1974 and elaborated further in the Framework Document agreed with its sponsor department, Communities and Local Government.
