Handshake
Functional Standards Common Glossary, published by the Cabinet Office, defines a handshake, or handshaking as: ‘…a technique of communication between two entities. A simple handshake might involve the receiver sending a message saying “I received your last message and I am ready for you to send me another one”.’
A handshake may also be a type of formal greeting, or an action symbolising agreement.
The use of the handle on a front door can also be referred to as a handshake.
