Introduction
Edificius is a building information modelling (BIM) and 3D architectural design software package used in the construction industry. It was first released in 2012 by ACCA software. The native format file is .EDF, but the software can export files to formats, such as: SVG, DWG, DXF, OBJ, STL, DAE, PLY, SKP and IFC.
It was developed for Windows although it can run also con MAC by using virtual machines. At the moment, it runs on PCs and laptops only. Edificius was released in Italian, English, French, Portuguese, Spanish, German, and Chinese.
Capabilities
With a 2D/3D input of specific customisable objects such as walls, slabs, windows, etc., it allows the user to create a model and automatically generate construction documents and drawings. Any change made to the model is dynamically applied to any related document - even those laid out and ready for printing.
By embracing and adopting BIM technology, the software increases productivity by covering and integrating different aspects of architectural design in a single solution, including:
- 3D architectural design.
- 2D architectural design with integrated CAD system.
- Interior design.
- Interventions on existing buildings.
- Architectural visualisation.
- Garden and landscape design.
- MEP systems modelling.
- Project planning.
- Construction cost estimating.
AMD Radeon™ Pro Render Ray Tracing engine was implemented in Edificius in 2019, in order to use Artificial Intelligence and produce realistic renders with increased performance and reduced timings. A Machine Learning Denoiser removes noise from a partially rendered image and reduces processing times.
