Photoelectric controls
Guide to Controls (BG 83/2023) written by John Marrow and published by BSRIA in June 2023, defines photoelectric control as: ‘A control strategy which adjusts electric lighting levels according to availability of natural light.’
It states: ‘Photoelectric controls ensure the lighting is switched on or off or dimmed in response to levels of natural light. Light levels are measured using one or more photoelectric sensors. This application is also known as daylight harvesting. If daylight is available to the workspace to be illuminated then energy consumption can be reduced by dimming or turning off luminaires.’
