Classification Without Further Testing CWFT
Products Classified Without Further Testing (CWFT) relates to products that meet requirements set out in harmonised technical specifications as having well-established reactions to fire performance, as agreed by the EU / UK construction committees and as such are certified with further testing needed. Such generic products which have agreements as being 'classified without further testing' (CWFT) are published in the Official Journal of the European Union, though these are generic, rather than specific or proprietary products.
In the case of timber products, for example, wood-based panels, structural timber, glulam, wood panelling, cladding and flooring appear on the generic list. The default Classes are D-s2, dO (and for floorings Dfl-sl or Cfl-s1) and the relevant classification is included in the product group harmonised product standard. Products not covered by CWFT decisions may be tested and obtain higher classifications. (GUIDANCE NOTE. Ref: WPA FR 11. Issue 1: February 2023 -"Understanding Fire Protection Terms Classification without further testing by WPA and TDUK.
EU Acquis under Regulation (EU) 305/2011 on construction products defines CWFT as “Products which have been proven to be stable in a given European class (on the basis of testing to the appropriate EN test methods), within the scope of their variability in manufacture allowed by the product specification (harmonised standard or ETA), and when evaluated for the influence of other possible variations, that may occur outside the scope of the specification, which may have an impact on their fire performance.”
