Sconce

A sconce is another word for a bracket or holder that is fixed to a wall. It most often refers to sconce lighting which was originally a bracket designed to hold a candle, but today also refers to a similar style of bracket that holds an electric light.
The term is also used as scarf or valance sconce, which is also a bracket fixed to a wall but one with a large hoop perpendicular to the wall through which a fabric material or drape can be fed. It is used as a form of decorative drapery or for fixing curtains around window reveals.
