Sub-agent
Sub-agents are sometimes referred to as ‘package managers’, and rather confusingly they are also sometimes referred to as construction managers, although this term more accurately refers to someone who manages trade contracts under a construction management contract.
Sub-agents are usually appointed on large construction projects to manage a specific part of the works or a specific package of work. A package is a part of the works that has been ‘bundled’ into a form suitable for tendering as a single sub-contract.
The sub-agent is responsible for managing that sub-contract, including the management of the sub-contractor, the quality of their work, their productivity, health and safety considerations and so on as well as directing section engineers.
Depending on the size and complexity of the sub-contract, the sub-agent may have staff who report to them.
