Inform Guide: Insect Attack to Timber, published on 22 January 2016 by Historic Scotland states in relation to powder post beetles: ‘These beetles most commonly attack new timber, hardwoods and building elements such as flooring. It can also attack existing building elements if the conditions are right. It produces a very fine bore dust, and holes around 2mm in diameter.’
