Overflow
The word ‘overflow’ may refer to:
- A combined sewer overflow.
- ‘A flow route (which may be formal or informal) where flow goes when it is no longer contained in the watercourse.’ Ref Culvert, screen and outfall manual, (CIRIA C786) published by CIRIA in 2019.
- An outlet that can discharge waste water from a fixture such as a bath or sink in the event that it becomes overfull.
The word 'overflowing' can refer to: 'The passage of water over a component such as a road or railway embankment or river-bank due to high water level. Overflowing does not necessarily represent 'failure' of an asset to perform its function.' Ref Culvert, screen and outfall manual, (CIRIA C786) published by CIRIA in 2019.
It might also refer to the passage of water beyond the constraints of an over-full container such as a sink or bath.
