KNX

Guide to Controls (BG 83/2023) written by John Marrow and published by BSRIA in June 2023, defines KNX as: ‘An open control protocol with a decentralised structure, commonly used in housing and other small building applications.’

It states: 'KNX was developed based on the European Home Systems Protocol (EHS), BatiBUS and the European Installation Bus (EIB or Instabus). Through its ease of setup, KNX has become prevalent in small building and domestic applications. KNX devices can manage a range of applications such as lighting, HVAC and security. A feature of KNX is its decentralised structure as there is no need for a central control device. Every device has its own microprocessor therefore if one device fails, the others continue to function.'
