[edit] A triumphant return with a blended event

Thanks to all for IHBC Aberdeen 2022 as it makes historic IHBC 25 anniversary success as the first blended: ‘a triumphant return…’ with c.250 delegates in person, online or on record.

The IHBC’s 2022 Aberdeen School, in its 25th anniversary year, hosted some 250 delegates across the Day School on 17 June – and even more at the Heritage MarketPlace launch – as early feedback is resoundingly positive.

[edit] Swansea in June 2023 will be just as good

IHBC President Mike Brown said: ‘Our Aberdeen 2022 School marked a triumphant return to the face-to-face format. Judging by the reaction of those there, it was all thoroughly enjoyed. Well done!’

‘I’m sure Swansea in June 2023 will be just as good, if not better’

… especially delighted with the opening welcome from Scotland’s Culture Secretary Angus Robertson…

IHBC Chair David McDonald said: ‘We were of course especially delighted with the opening welcome from Scotland’s Culture Secretary Angus Robertson. That was live-streamed into our blended Day School, and the rest of the day kept up the high standards of engagement coupled with technical challenges, as we moved across live, in-person, streamed and recorded contributions.’

‘It was a privilege to be part of the team which delivered such a successful hybrid IHBC Annual School in Aberdeen. My sincere thanks are due to all involved, in particular the local organising committee and IHBC National office’.

‘As well as these, I’d also like to thank our main sponsors and supporters, including MFL Affinity and the Aberdeenshire and Aberdeen Councils, as well as Aberdeen City Heritage Trust and Bon Accord Heritage’.

[edit] Early feedback is extremely positive and generous

IHBC Director Seán O’Reilly said: ‘Early feedback is already extremely positive and generous. This is all especially welcome, not least as Aberdeen is our first blended event, but also because technical issues meant we could only do our first ‘live’ test 50 minutes before the virtual broadcast started!’

‘Our Chair for the day – IHBC Chair David McDonald – as ever, fronted the hidden mysteries of our back-office machinations with the calm grandeur we know so well, and still rely on so much.’

‘All in-person delegates seemed to have a great experience, but some virtual delegates had issues either with the wifi signals from the venue or the technology to hand. We will of course do all we can to help everyone address any limitations for #IHBCSwansea2023, including with some free events that build on the legacy of our Aberdeen School and help our service users evolve their systems further.’
