Advanced thermal treatments
The Illustrated Guide to Renewable Technologies BG 1/2008, By Kevin Pennycook, published by BSRIA in March 2008, suggests: ‘Gasification is a process whereby solid biomass (wood) is converted into a combustible gas in a thermo-chemical process. The process involves the partial oxidation of wood, producing methane, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, and hydrogen. The precise characteristics of the gas released will depend on the process temperature and the oxidiser used. Oxidisers can be air, steam or oxygen.’
