Civionics
Civionics (sometimes referred to as civionic engineering) is a term used to describe an emerging field that combines civil and electronics engineering. It is an adaptation of the term civil-electronics, which has been used to describe the application of electronics to civil structures.
The field of civionics is developing in response to the need for the documentation of the integration of technology and electronics in structural health monitoring (sometimes referred to as structural health and environmental monitoring). This form of monitoring can be applied to buildings, bridges and other structures.
The information collected through civionics may help professionals gain a better understanding of the behaviour of materials as well as how various conditions affect their integrity. It is hoped that civionics will result in the development of increasingly innovative design approaches and products.
