Habitat network
North Ayrshire Local Biodiversity Action Plan, 2019-2031, published by North Ayrshire Council, states in relation to habitat networks: “Habitat fragmentation occurs when larger areas of habitat are split into separate, smaller areas. It’s been happening for many years. This splitting of larger areas of habitat into separate, smaller ones adversely affects wildlife in a number of ways. A habitat network is one that’s focused on the connectivity of a single habitat or species. A green network focuses on delivering social and economic benefits as well as environmental improvements. An integrated habitat network combines the needs of several habitats and species.”
