[edit] A Better Hiring Toolkit for Construction

The Better Hiring Toolkit for Construction companies is a collaboration between the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB), Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS), Reed Screening, the Gangmasters & Labour Abuse Authority (GLAA), and the Better Hiring Institute, aiming to give organisations in the industry the tools to hire against best practice standards in the sector. It also aims to prevent employing staff who are not honest about their personal circumstances, achievements, or identities.

This Better Hiring Toolkit for the whole construction sector is free and has handy templates throughout for you to use within your organisation. The Construction subcommittee brings together a range of well-known and SME organisations in the sector to develop best practice, agree, and maintain standards through the Better Hiring Toolkit. The industry subcommittee also provides feedback on the Blueprint for Better Hiring, the UKs first complete guide for the future of hiring, as well as contributing to the Modernising Employment All-Party Parliamentary Group (MODE APPG).

[edit] The Blueprint for Better Hiring

Better hiring blueprint 1000.jpg

The Blueprint for Better Hiring is the UK’s first guide on how the hiring process needs modernising. The Blueprint is a living document owned and updated by the Better Hiring Institute’s consortium of experts across multiple sectors, employers, and government. It is designed to show what change is required within hiring to drive the levelling up agenda and help organisations bounce back better after the pandemic.

It is divided into four pillars, Future Hiring, Pre-Hiring, Hiring, and Onboarding. Each pillar is split into one-page sections of the component parts of the hiring process. Therefore, it can be seen as an overall manifesto or as a specific topic within the hiring process as stand-alone.

[edit] The Better Hiring Charter

The Better Hiring Charter has been developed by experts across industry, Government, and the third sector to improve the way the UK hires. In conjunction with the Government's Back to Work Plan, the Charter is designed to help get more people into work by making UK Hiring faster, fairer and safer. To boost the economy, improve productivity, and enhance the UK's competitiveness abroad, UK Hiring needs to be better for everyone.

The Charter is made up of 10 broad principles for employers to comply with. The principles themselves have been developed over many months through collaboration with hundreds of organisations, through sessions in Parliament, and alongside Government and academic advisors.

The Better Hiring Institute exists to transform the UK labour market by bringing in a revolution in the way the UK hires staff. Working with UK Government the Better Hiring Institute has developed Better Hiring Toolkits to cover 80% of the UK workforce, a Better Hiring Charter to transform fairness in UK Hiring and runs the Modernising Employment APPG in Parliament. Its mission is to make UK Hiring Faster, Fairer and Safer and by working with over 10,000 organisations across the UK towards delivery.

The Better Hiring Institute (BHI) was set up in 2020 between industry and UK Government to modernise and improve UK Hiring. Today the Better Hiring Institute works with over 10,000 organisations and its National UK Hiring Framework covers 80% of the workforce with standardised best practice for employers by way if the Better Hiring Toolkits. The BHI works closely with many Government departments to bring about the changes needed to drive UK Hiring forward.
