Customer's own material in construction COM
'COM' refers to 'Customer's Own Material'.
This phrase is used, for example, when the client selects a fabric for an upholstered item of furniture, fixtures and equipment (FF&E) such as seat furniture. FF&E manufacturers will specify the conditions COM must meet to be acceptable for their manufacture.
When purchasing FF&E with COM the cost will have to take account of the manufacturer's price for the furniture and a separate fabric cost. Usually the client will purchase the COM direct and free issue it to the manufacturer.
